Heat Embossing using Hello Friend from Stampin’ Up!

Technique 101 with Michelle Last

This months technique is heat embossing a real favourite of mine and I use it a lot as it really adds a pop and definition to your projects.  It is also perfect to use on those hard to stamp materials such as vellum.

Hello Friend from Stampin Up

I went super simple and embossed the wreath image direct onto Smoky Slate cardstock.  I then added the greeting in black ink and added a gingham bow and some rhinestones – really simple.

How to Heat Emboss
  • Sweep the embossing buddy across the cardstock to absorb any sticky or greasy areas on your card.
  • Ink up the desired image in Versamark Ink and stamp onto the cardstock.
  • Sprinkle over the chosen heat emboss powder, tapping off any excess.
  • If you have grains of embossing powder which are stuck to the cardstock where they shouldn’t be, rub them off or remove with a dry paint brush.
  • Turn on your heat tool and wait approx 20-30 seconds for it to heat up until you point it at the stamped image and watch the powder turn from dull/matt to a shiny sealed image once they are heat set.
  • Your image will now be heat set and permanent.
  • Be careful when embossing on delicate paper or cardstock such as vellum.
  • Remember to turn off and unplug your heat tool when not in use.

Let’s go and see what the other design team have made using Heat Embossing.  Next up is Frenchie, click the next button below but if you get lost then the list of particpants is shared below.

Moving Cards from Stampin’ Up!

I created a moving card using the You Move Me stamp set from Stampin’ Up! for this weeks Global Design Project challenge.  When I first saw this stamp set in the catalogue I was a little perplexed by the striped images but when I saw a demo of how the card worked I was absolutely blown away.

Click here> I have a video on my Instagram account where you can see it moving.

You Move Me from Stampin' Up!

How I made the Moving Card

I used our mini treat bag thinlits die and then die cut the horizontal lines using the die from Move Me Thinlits.

I stamped the pretty flowers and leaves and die cut them using the You Move Me bundle.

The greeting on the front is heat embossed in gold and from the One Big Meaning Stamp set.

The butterfly lined image is stamped twice in two colours, Melon Mambo and Blushing Bride and finally I added the beautiful ombre ribbon to made a loop to slide the insert in and out.

Thank you card for the Global Design Project Colour Challenge

We have a colour challenge for you this week at the Global Design Project.  I love a colour challenge as it really makes me stretch my creativity and use colours or combinations of colours that I would not normally gravitate towards.

I have made a simple thank you card using the new Background Bits stamp set.  It is a hostess set in the new annual catalogue which launches on Thursday 1st June.

Background Bits Thank you from Stampin Up

You may be thinking that you have to be a hostess and host a party to get Stampin’ Rewards and get any of the subsidised hostess sets for free but you don’t.  Let me explain….

How can I get a Hostess Set?

You simply place an order for £150+.  It can be your own order or an order from a party or event where the group sales are £150+.  Once the sales reach £150 you earn a % of the sales as hostess rewards.

Stampin Up Hostess Rewards Chart

How do I spend Stampin’ Rewards

Our hostess sets are shown on page 220-223 and those sets are subsidised and much cheaper than if they were for sale in the main catalogue.  You can see the price shown beneath the set, its £16 for wood mount and £12 for clear mount but you can see the value is also shared.  So the wood mount set would normally retail at £26 for wood mount!  What a great deal! Background Bits Hostess Set from Stampin Up

That means if your order was £165 you would earn £16.50 in Stampin’ Rewards.  You can use this to spend on any current catalogue items of your choice including the subsidised hostess stamp sets at the back of the catalogue.

If you choose free items to the value of £18 and you only earned £16.50 you can simply pay the difference so its a wonderful chance to stock up on this much loved hostess stamp sets!

Earn extra Stampin’ Rewards in June!

When your order or party total is £300+ you earn AN ADDITIONAL £30 in Stampin’ Rewards on top of the already very generous stampin rewards shown in the chart above.

That means a £300 order would receive £66 in Stampin’ Rewards to spend on free stuff of your choice!

Spend £400 you get £86 Stampin’ Rewards and any item out of the catalogue at HALF PRICE!

So now that I have shared my card using the Background Bits Hostess Set lets see this weeks colour challenge from the Global Design Project and we really hope you join us this week and make your own card or project using these lovely colours.

#GDP089

Time to pop over to see what the rest of the design team have made with the same 3 colours and submit your own project to the weekly challenge.

The new hostess set is not available till 1st June when the new catalogue goes.  I cannot wait to get my hands on new stuff.

If you would like to request your own paper copy of the new catalogue simply click the request a copy image on the right and fill out the contact form and I will pop a copy in the post to you.

Have a great day and pop back on catalogue launch day to see lots of inspiration from the new catalogue.

Technique 101 – Thumping using Blooms & Wishes

Technique 101 with Michelle Last

At the technique 101 we are hopping around and sharing projects using the thumping technique. I used the Blooms and Wishes stamp set and there isn’t a black eye in sight!

Blooms & Wishes Technique 101 Thumping

I have not tried this technique before and really enjoyed the results.  I used the Blooms and Wishes stamp set and my inks and markers to create the speckled effect on the flowers.  You simply ink up your solid stamp with a light colour ink and then using the brush tip of the marker pens you need to thump the tip onto the stamp in a darker colour marker pen to create the speckle effect.

I used three flower stamps from Blooms & Wishes and here are the colour combos I used.

  • So Saffron Ink Pad and Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral Marker Pens.
  • Blushing Bride Ink Pad and Sweet Sugarplum and Pumpkin Pie Marker Pens.
  • Calypso Coral Ink Pad and Real Red Marker Pen.

I stamped off some of the darker colours before thumping with the marker pens so experiment before you stamp onto your cardstock.

Blooms & Wishes from Stampin Up

This is a different colour combo for me but I really like it.  I stamped the leaves without any thumping using Cajun Craze (stamped off first).

I wanted a large sentiment for the front and the thank you so much from  Thankful Thoughts was perfect. I thought it would look great gold heat embossed but it would look great just stamped in a darker colour ink too!

You are sure to be amazed at what the other design team blog hoppers have made using the thumping technique, simply click the next button below or if you get lost click the next in the list below that.

Mediterranean Moments from Stampin’ Up!

I have a gorgeous coloured thank you card made using the Mediterranean Moments stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  My husbands work colleague is from Spain and he kindly gave us a bottle of his cold pressed Olive Oil from his region in Spain.

I wanted to make a thank you card and the Mediterranean moments stamp set seemed a perfect fit.Mediterranean moments from Stampin Up

I stamped the image onto watercolour paper and stitched around the edge onto early espresso card as I had my sewing machine handy.  I then set about colouring the image with a combo of watercolour pencils and inks and the blender pen.  Colouring really is very therapeutic and it really did not take long to get it coloured.  I then added a heat embossed thanks sentiment from the thankful thoughts stamp set.

The last detail was to add the fine tip glue to the bench and the lamps to create a shine to those images only once the glue had dried.

The stamps in this set are so detailed and if you need some ideas on what colours to use when colouring them in doing a google image search as there are lots of examples for inspiration.

If you would like to order Stampin Up products, you can visit my online shop and place you own order anytime.  If you like the products I have used in todays card then click any of the images below to go direct to that item in my online shop.  Please remember to use the hostess code to receive a free thank you gift from me and with every £45 you spend you can also choose a free sale-a-bration item (see leaflet on the right hand side of this post).

I am here to help so please get in touch if you need me.  Have lovely weekend x
