Technique 101 – Thumping using Blooms & Wishes

Technique 101 with Michelle Last

At the technique 101 we are hopping around and sharing projects using the thumping technique. I used the Blooms and Wishes stamp set and there isn’t a black eye in sight!

Blooms & Wishes Technique 101 Thumping

I have not tried this technique before and really enjoyed the results.  I used the Blooms and Wishes stamp set and my inks and markers to create the speckled effect on the flowers.  You simply ink up your solid stamp with a light colour ink and then using the brush tip of the marker pens you need to thump the tip onto the stamp in a darker colour marker pen to create the speckle effect.

I used three flower stamps from Blooms & Wishes and here are the colour combos I used.

  • So Saffron Ink Pad and Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral Marker Pens.
  • Blushing Bride Ink Pad and Sweet Sugarplum and Pumpkin Pie Marker Pens.
  • Calypso Coral Ink Pad and Real Red Marker Pen.

I stamped off some of the darker colours before thumping with the marker pens so experiment before you stamp onto your cardstock.

Blooms & Wishes from Stampin Up

This is a different colour combo for me but I really like it.  I stamped the leaves without any thumping using Cajun Craze (stamped off first).

I wanted a large sentiment for the front and the thank you so much from  Thankful Thoughts was perfect. I thought it would look great gold heat embossed but it would look great just stamped in a darker colour ink too!

You are sure to be amazed at what the other design team blog hoppers have made using the thumping technique, simply click the next button below or if you get lost click the next in the list below that.

#GDP064 Case the designer Connie Collins

This week at the Global Design Project we are caseing the designer Connie Collins.  I adore Connie’s card and her photography so relished the thought of making a card in her honour.  I loved the bright colour scheme of Connie’s card and that was my starting point for this card.

#gdp064-best-blooms-case-of-connie-collins

It combines lots of my favourites as I have used Jar of Love and Blooms & Wishes and its such a refreshing colour palette at this time of year! Below is the card from Connie, we would love you to join in and design a card based on the one below.

Technique 101 Blog Hop – Z Fold Card

For this months technique 101 blog hop we are making a Z Fold Card.

Techniques 101 Monthly Blog Hop

It is a really fun fold card which can be adapted to make so many different cards.

Z Fold Card Technique 101

I have kept my Z fold card pretty simple and let the stamps do the talking.

I cut a piece of whisper white cardstock to measure 10.5cm x 29.7cm.

I then cut an angled piece of card off the long edge to create the angled finish, see below. The top left corner (a) is positioned at 10cm on my trimmer and the bottom right corner (b) is positioned in the gully where the cutting blades passes and I cut off that angled strip of cardstock.

I then scored the card at 9.9cm intervals so I have three sections.  I cut my patterned paper to a strip which measured 9.5cm wide and laid it on the panel where I wanted to add patterned paper.  I made sure that it was evening spaced between the right hand and left hand score line.  I moved the patterned paper up slightly (approx 2 widths from the bottom), slipped it over and marked with a pencil and trimmed off the excess.

I should then have a piece of patterned paper which an even border on all sides with the same angle as the cardstock card base.

If you are super clever you can flip that piece of patterned paper and use the other pattern on the other side to adhere to another panel and that the angle is a perfect match!

I then stamped the front of my card with 4 colours of ink using the Blooms & Wishes stamp set.  Some of the colours were stamped onto my scrap paper before stamping on the card to give a lighter shade and two variations of colour from the same ink pad.

Pretty simple but yet very effective!  Shall we go and see what the other Z fold cards the design team members have made? Next up is Sonia Benedetti, just click the button below to go directly there….

One Sheet Wonder using Blooms & Wishes

I shared with you yesterday a card I made with Blooms & Wishes using the One Sheet Wonder technique.  In case you are wondering what a One Sheet Wonder is, it is a simply way of stamping a whole sheet of A4 cardstock and then cutting it economically to get lots of different cuts to create many cards.

Blooms & Wishes One SHeet Wonder 7 Cards

The one sheet wonder I have created is using the Blooms and Wishes stamp set and I created 7 cards.  I also used the Sunshine Saying Stamp set and matching Sunshine Wishes Thinlits to create the sentiments and details for each card.  Here is the stamped A4 sheet, be mindful to stamp each flower 4 times in all four sections of the cardstock so that you have an even spread of flowers.  Blooms & Wishes One Sheet Wonder Stamped A4

Here is a quick video to show you how I created the background…

Here are the supplies I used to create all 7 cards –

  • 5 sheets Whisper White Cardstock
  • 1 sheet of Flirty Flamingo Cardstock
  • 1 sheet of Watermelon Wonder Cardstock
  • 1 roll of Washi tape from the Affectionately Yours Washi tape collection
  • Ink – Flirty Flamingo, Watermelon Wonder, So Saffron, Crushed Curry, Old Olive, Peekaboo Peach

Here is how I cut my sheet of A4 cardstock to create all 7 cards.  I ended up with one small stamped rectangle – you could use that to make a tag!  If you are not using A4 cardstock, simply use the cutting guide below to cut your piece of card without paying too much attention to the measurements in mm.

Once cut you can make the 7 cards shown below…

I had a little candle in a jar and decided to embellish the top to match the card to give as a gift and paired with the striped ribbon as it coordinates so well!
I used the new layering circles framelits to create the double scallop edge.  I also used the sunshine wishes thinlits to create the die cut sentiment and matching stamps from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set.
