Embossed Watercolour Resist for Technique 101 Blog Hop

Technique 101 with Michelle Last

I am sharing a cool technique with you today called Embossed Watercolour Resist for the Technique 101 Blog Hop.

Colourful Seasons Leaf Background from Stampin' Up!

I have the best customers and one of my lovely ladies in Scotland was telling me about creating this technique and I have since fallen in love with the emboss watercolour resist technique.

How to create the Embossed Watercolour Resist technique
  • I stamped the leaf image from Colorful Seasons over the watercolour paper using Versamark Ink.
This was probably the trickiest part as the ink is clear and hard to detect until you have sprinkled the clear embossing powder on it.
  • I then sprinkled white embossing powder own the inky leaf stamped images and heat set with a heat tool.
  • Wet the watercolour paper with a paint brush and water, be liberal with the water.
  • Choose the colours you wish to use and squeeze the ink pads whilst still closed to pool some ink in the lid.  Open the ink pad and add 3-5 drops of water into the pooled ink to make it really watery.
  • With an aqua painter pick up your chosen coloured ink and colour ink the stamped image.
  • The ink will stay within the embossed lines and create the emboss resist technique.
  • If you need to re-wet your watercolour paper until all the stamped images are coloured in.
  • Once completed dry the watercolour paper with a heat tool then re-wet the background with the water and paint brush and using Marina Mist (watered down in the lid) blend the ink in the background.
  • Dry and assemble the card.

The ink will fade as it drys but you can dry and repeat the process or add less watered down ink colour to your image to make it as bright as you wish.

Try it, pretty sure you will love the effect and we have some beautiful stamps which would work great with this technique.

40th Birthday Card for #GDP102

This week at the Global Design Project we have a sketch challenge and I have made a 40th Birthday Card using the Number of Years stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

Letters for You from Stampin Up

It was my beautiful cousin’s 40th birthday and I wanted to make a special card for her.  The number of years stamp set is a brilliant set for any milestone birthdays you are celebrating.

The stamp set has matching dies which makes cutting out the numbers a breeze!

Number of Years from Stampin Up

I added a little string of linen thread around the base of the back part of the card and made the front a little shorter.

I also added a washi tape edging to the white card front and some enamel dots.

The greeting on the front is just perfect for my cousin Nichola.  She is just a blessing to our family.  She makes us all smile and I was delighted to be able to celebrate her birthday with her and my family.  She even had the biggest helium balloon I have have seen with her name on it!

Nichola's 40th Birthday

Love her!

Here is the inside of the card….

Bike Ride Birthday from Stampin’ Up!

I have made a card for the colour challenge for the Global Design Project using the Bike Ride stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  It is our daughter Amy’s 19th Birthday tomorrow so I made an extra special card with a unique detail personal to our family. I hope it makes you smile.

Bike Ride from Stampin Up

I stamped and die cut the bike frame, wheels etc and added a little basket of flowers on the back of the bike.  Coming very soon in the new seasonal catalogue is this cute little Dachshund so I stamped and die cut him to make him just up at the bike which is exactly what our little Dachshund Pip would do.  If she can get a carry or a lift she’d much rather that than walk!

Here are the colours this this weeks colour challenge with the Global Design Project challenge.

#GDP101

It is a slider card and I added a little greeting on the inside too so there is a little surprise when she pulls it open.

This Little Piggy went roller skating!

My heart is full…..  I have just had the most wonderful team weekend and only got back Sunday evening and had yet to make my Global Design Project card.  Just before I left for the retreat I received my delivery and got my long awaited for This Little Piggy Stamp Set.   I don’t think I could love a stamp set more.

I could NOT wait to get this stamp set inky and when I saw the theme for this weeks challenge I was stumped for a moment as it was Wheels, yes wheels!!!! But having spent the weekend with a incredible people and really being so thankful to have a fantastic team and for Stampin’ Up! I wanted to use the greeting in this set and of course use the colour pink as our team name is the Pinkies and so I just had to use the piggies, wheels or no wheels.

This LIttle Piggy from Stampin' Up!

I used some artistic license and added some roller skates using a marker pen and the new mini sequins for wheels.  I hope the lovely GDP organise Louise forgives me 🙂

There are so many lovely new elements on this card and I could not be happier after spending the weekend with team members who I adore to get stamping.

This Little Piggy #GDP091

I am filled with inspiration after seeing so many samples and projects.  I received amazing swaps, attended some fabulous classes including how to get the blue on the background using watercolour pencils (thank you Sarah Berry) and laughed until my jaw hurt.

I love my team, they are inspirational, kind, supportive and great great fun!  I am truly blessed and they truly make me happy.

Now don’t be afraid to think outside the box and find a way to add wheels to your crafting projects and join the Global Design Project challenge this week.  We would love you to enter!
