Technique 101 – Creating backgrounds with your clear blocks

Technique 101 with Michelle Last

This month we are sharing projects made by inking up the clear blocks and stamping them to create a background for your card.

Flower Shop & Pansy Punch from Stampin Up

I originally wanted to use one large clear block but just wasn’t get the background effect I wanted so I reached for my clear block B and inked it up with smoky slate ink and spritzed it with water from the spritzer bottle.

I then stamped it on the watercolour card background and pressed hard to let the ink soak in and didn’t lift up the block right away, I let it sit for a while to make sure that the paper had soaked up the ink and water.

If you have excess water when you remove the block, simply dab away any excess with kitchen towel or tissue.

I stamped the same block in the same ink twice more to create three blocks on my background.

Backgrounds with clear blocks

I them stamped three identical flowers from the flower shop stamp set and coloured with with Powder Pink and Flirty Flamingo ink and an aqua painter an stuck them on the blocks with a dimensional.

Finally I needed a greeting and die cut the hug using the Lovely Words Thinlit Dies and just snipped the ends of the word so it wasn’t encased in the circle.

A final addition of the glitter enamel dots and it was done!

I cannot wait to see the backgrounds the rest of the blog hoppers have created with clear blocks, lets go visit Frenchie and see her beautiful card.

Delicate Details from Stampin’ Up! free during saleabration

There are only two more days of saleabration.  That means its your last chance to get the Delicate Details stamp set for FREE when you place an order for £45 or more.

I love the delicate lace stamps in this set and love how easily you can create a background.  I heat embossed the Delicate Details stamp using white embossing powder onto a small mounted rectangle.

Delicate Details from Stampin Up free during saleabration

You can mount all the lace stamps onto a large clear block at the same time and ink up and stamp in one or two strokes to save using loads of blocks.

I stamped the with sympathy sentiment from the Better Together stamp set onto vellum and heat embossed in white and wrapped around the lace stamped panel.

I wanted to add a pop of colour so chose the Crushed Curry Ink and stamped a flower from Flower Shop and punched around it using the matching Pansy Punch.

A final flourish was added with the Falling in Love embellishments.

I really hope you give this card a try yourselves, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Pinkies Birmingham Weekend Mini Album

Good morning and happy Friday to you all.  I have a picture heavy post to share with you today.
As you may know I held a weekend retreat for my team last weekend in Birmingham and I designed a project for them to make in between the classes.  I honestly did not think that anyone would complete it but they would at least have the basic kit and instructions and could complete it at home but some of them did finish it!
It turned out so pretty and made me fall in love with the Afternoon Picnic paper from Stampin Up and the journalling cards in Spring/Summer seasonal all over again!
I’m afraid I won’t be sharing the instructions to make this project with anyone who did not attend the weekend, I do hope you understand.  These ladies gave up their weekend to come and craft, create and share with our group and this was my way of giving them something as a thank you.
So enjoy looking at the album and all the inner pages, all I have to do now is fill it!!!!

And I know I forgot last week {my apologies} but here is todays Reveal Friday – My party trick is to make my eye squeak, lame I know and probably not advised as I recently had eye surgery to improve my vision.  I had varifocal lenses inserted into my eyes so that I have no more need for contact lenses and glasses!  I could not recommend it highly enough, my eyes are still settling down and I will probably have to stop doing my party trick but to be honest I think that may be a relief to everyone around me :0)  Wishing you a wonderful weekend x
