Heat Embossing using Hello Friend from Stampin’ Up!

Technique 101 with Michelle Last

This months technique is heat embossing a real favourite of mine and I use it a lot as it really adds a pop and definition to your projects.  It is also perfect to use on those hard to stamp materials such as vellum.

Hello Friend from Stampin Up

I went super simple and embossed the wreath image direct onto Smoky Slate cardstock.  I then added the greeting in black ink and added a gingham bow and some rhinestones – really simple.

How to Heat Emboss
  • Sweep the embossing buddy across the cardstock to absorb any sticky or greasy areas on your card.
  • Ink up the desired image in Versamark Ink and stamp onto the cardstock.
  • Sprinkle over the chosen heat emboss powder, tapping off any excess.
  • If you have grains of embossing powder which are stuck to the cardstock where they shouldn’t be, rub them off or remove with a dry paint brush.
  • Turn on your heat tool and wait approx 20-30 seconds for it to heat up until you point it at the stamped image and watch the powder turn from dull/matt to a shiny sealed image once they are heat set.
  • Your image will now be heat set and permanent.
  • Be careful when embossing on delicate paper or cardstock such as vellum.
  • Remember to turn off and unplug your heat tool when not in use.

Let’s go and see what the other design team have made using Heat Embossing.  Next up is Frenchie, click the next button below but if you get lost then the list of particpants is shared below.

Pinkies Colouring Challenge

This week I am sharing some entries to our team challenge to create a project using colouring.

Pinkies Team Design Challenge with Michelle Last

There are so many ways to colour in paper crafting and I am sure that you will be inspired by all the projects shared below to pick up your own colouring tools and get crafting!

Before I reveal what my team made and give you a chance to vote for your favourite I wanted to share my colouring project…

Forever evergreen stampin Up

I had wonderful fun colouring in these baubles.  I really am a novice at colouring but when you use watercolour paper its really easy.  I stamped the baubles in versamark and embossed in silver embossing powder.  I then was able to use my aqua painter to colour the baubles and add shading by going over the same patch of the bauble.  As watercolour paper is super absorbent its means you can colour repeatedly over the same spot to create the shading or graduation of colour.

I wanted the baubles to pop off the background so I added a smoky slate background using a dauber.  I then stamped the tree branches from Christmas Pines in two colours of ink.

I then threaded the silver metallic thread from the top of the bauble to the branch so they look like they are really hanging from the tree.

I added the Noel sentiment and embossed that too.  I then stamped, coloured and cut out two more baubles which I added to the inside with another sentiment.

Team Challenge – Stampin’ Up projects using Heat Embossing

I am holding another challenge for my team of demos and they need to create something using heat embossing.   I love heat embossing and quite often when my card just needs a little something more I add some heat embossing.  Everyone who took part is shown below and I would love you to vote for your three favourite entries.

Pinkies Team Design Challenge with Michelle Last

I have made my own card using heat embossing and I reached for the new stamp set Frosted Medallions as I just love the large snowflake design.

Pinkies Team Design challenge using Heat Embossing

I stamped onto Sweet Sugar plum card in versa mark and heat embossed using clear embossing powder which gives a tone on tone effect.

The back ground card base is Rich Razzleberry and I added the lovely big sentiment from Wonderful Year onto vellum and heat embossed that in white embossing powder, it really makes it pop! Finally a flourish of sequins and it was complete.

Now its time to see what my team have made using heat embossing….

Take a look at all the entries below and please vote for your three favourites by clicking the heart in the top right of the image. Voting closes on Thursday 15th September at midnight and the winner will be announced on Friday in a new blog post and they will also receive a £20 Stamping Spree with me!

Techniques 101 Monthly Blog Hop

I also have a Technique 101 Blog Post for you which is sharing a simple card using a technique, this months technique is Heat Embossing.  It is such a WOW technique and if you have not tried it before you definitely need to give it a go….

Technique 101 - Heat Embossing using Love & Affection

I used a new stamp set called Love & Affection and simply stamped the sentiment and the floral designs around the edge of the card front using Versamark Ink.  Versamark Ink is more sticky than normal ink and takes longer to dry which gives you time to sprinkle the heat embossing powder on to your card front.  It only sticks where you have inked with the versamark.

Technique 101 - Heat Embossing using Love & Affection

I keep my embossing powder in plastic takeaway containers as it makes it easier to pour the excess back into the container.  If you find that the powder is sticking to the card in places where it shouldn’t you really need to invest in an embossing buddy as it removes any moisture or oil from the paper which the powder will want to cling to.

Once the powder has stuck to the inked image  you need to use your heat tool to melt and set your powder.   Turn on the heat tool and let it heat up for 30 seconds before pointing it at your cardstock to melt the powder.

Technique 101 - Embossing using Love & Affection

When the powder is melted it will go from dull to shiny.  You can see the leaves which are bright white, they have melted and you can move the heat tool to another area to melt the powder until it is all done.

Once it is melted and cooled you should be able to run your hand over the stamped images and the melted powder will not rub off.

I then simply added some rhinestones to add some bling and you are good to go!

I did a stepped up version of this card for my cruise swap with Stampin Up which you can see here……

Please continue to hop on over to Sonia in France to see some more ideas using heat embossing….

#GDP034 Hello Card made for the Global Design Project

I’m back and have made a card for the Global Design Project.
It is a simple sketch this week so I kept it simple.
#GDP034 Hello Card for the Global Design Project

I reached for one of the new In Colours which is being launched on 1st June in the new annual catalogue.  It is called Flirty Flamingo and I used the ink to create the watercolour wash background too.
#GDP034 Hello card for the Global Design Project

I cut several of the ‘hello’ thinlits dies and in Flirty Flamingo and glued and layered them up.  I topped it with a white hello die cut which I staggered to create a shadow. I made the watercolour wash background with an aqua painter on to whisper white cardstock and then heat embossed some small dots from the Timeless Textures stamp set.  Finally a splash of rhinestones to add some sparkle.

We would love to see what you lovely people create using the same sketch below –

#GDP034

Pop on over to the Global Design Project to see what all the design team have made with the same sketch.

The retiring list is still available by clicking the Going, Going Gone graphic on the right and lots of items have already sold out so don’t let your favourites disappear for good.
