Popcorn Box Thinlits from Stampin’ Up!

This week over at the Global Design Project we have a theme challenge and the theme is Amusement Park!

Honestly I was stumped, there is one obvious stamp set in the seasonal catalogue which would be a perfect choice but I don’t own it (shock horror – I don’t own everything you know!) so I had to think outside the box.

Then I thought Popcorn box, you eat popcorn at amusement parks, yes that is it, please tell me I own the Popcorn Box Thinlit dies.  Thankfully I do and this is this weeks project…

Isn’t it cute!  Why have I not made these for ages?  I just want to make popcorn boxes and eat popcorn all day!

I love the diagonal stripe designer series paper and added some flowers from the Jar of Love bundle to accent the popcorn label.

#GDP064 Case the designer Connie Collins

This week at the Global Design Project we are caseing the designer Connie Collins.  I adore Connie’s card and her photography so relished the thought of making a card in her honour.  I loved the bright colour scheme of Connie’s card and that was my starting point for this card.

It combines lots of my favourites as I have used Jar of Love and Blooms & Wishes and its such a refreshing colour palette at this time of year! Below is the card from Connie, we would love you to join in and design a card based on the one below.

#GDP061 Hidden Message Card

Happy New Week.  I have a hidden message card to share with you today.  I was first inspired by Patrice Halliday-Larsen with her beautiful hidden message card shown here! This card was made for a colour challenge for the Global Design Project and I would love you all to join us and made something using the 3 stampin up colours shown below.

#GDP061 Hidden Message Card

I have used a stamp set you may not have noticed called The Places You’ll Go from the annual catalogue as I adore the sentiment. In case you are wondering where the black dots are in the centre of the flowers are from, they are our pearls coloured with a black sharpie.

And here is the inside… And you are probably wondering where the hidden message is?

I created a quick video for you… click the link below to view.

Jar of Love Christmas Shaker Card

Designer Series Paper Sale from Stampin Up

I made this cute shaker card using the Jar of Love stamp set and dies from Stampin’ Up!  I love this set so much and I love shaker cards but I thought I would add sweeties this time and do a little something fancy so that the sentiment shows through the acetate but is in fact on the inside of the card!

Jar of Love Christmas Shaker Card

I used some designer series paper (get one pack free when you buy three packs in October) across the bottom and embossed the white card with the beautiful Holly embossing folder.

Jar of Love Christmas Shaker Card

I used the Candy Cane Christmas stamp set for the sentiment and to stamp and punch out the little sweets.  Love the pop of red on the card!

Jar of Love Christmas Shaker Card

I also heat embossed the jar lid to make it look like metal.

There is a chill in the air so it is definitely time to start thinking about Christmas cards!  We have some gorgeous products in our seasonal catalogue (and our annual too) so time to get shopping and pinning on Pinterest ready for your goodies to arrive.

All the products I used to make this card are from Stampin’ Up! and are available from my Stampin Up shop.  Simply click any of the images below or the button on the right to go direct to my online shop and place your order.  If your order is £20+ you will receive a free thank you gift from me, read the info below my signature for more info!

Technique 101 Colouring with Aqua Painters

Techniques 101 Monthly Blog Hop

This month for the technique 101 blog post we are showing ideas on how to watercolour using Aqua Painters and Stampin Up Inks.

It is a really cool technique but takes a little practice so if this your first time colouring with Aqua Painters try stamping an image several times and practicing your colouring.

It is best to use watercolour paper when you are watercoloring as the extra thick absorbent paper can take lots of water and not pill or ball as you are doing it.

I reached for the frog from You’re Sublime as I had an idea I wanted to stamp a frog into a Jar (as you do!)…

Technique 101 - Using Aqua Painters

Isn’t he cute?

I stamped the Jar from the Jar of Love stamp set in Black StazOn Ink and tilted the lid as if it was leaning against the jar so Mr Frog could hop out if he wanted to.  You have to use StazOn when you are watercoloring otherwise the outline will bleed as you watercolour.

Technique 101 - Watercoloring with Aqua Painters

Mr Frogs legs were too wide to fit neatly inside the jar so I had to mask the outside of the jar with post it notes and then stamp the frog with StazOn.  I used a stamp-a-majig to use as a guide as to where to stamp the frog.

Technique 101 Colouring with Aqua Painters

I also did not want to stamp the sentiment  as it would not be central so the post it notes made sure it did not come out on the watercolour paper. So to get the sentiment central I swapped over the post it notes and using the stamp-a-majig to position the sentiment in the bottom centre of the jar.

Technique 101 Colouring with Aqua Painters

Now I am ready to colour with the aqua painters, I used Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, Pool Party and Sahara Sand ink pads.  Squeeze the ink pad when it is closed to press the lid into the ink pad.  Then when you open it the ink will be in the lid ready to pick up with your aqua painter.

Technique 101 Colouring with Aqua Painters

I coloured from one side of the frog from left to right.  I wanted to create a shadow and make the ink darker on the left so I went over the frog in green several times but I always started on the left when the ink was darkest as I had just replenished my aqua painter.

Technique 101 Colouring with Aqua Painters

I coloured the spots in Garden green and a little water at the base of the Jar using Pool Party Ink.  Finally I added a shadow using Sahara Sand Ink.  Each time I had finished colouring with a specific colour ink I rubbed it on my grid paper to get rid of any ink before picking up another colour (as shown below).

Technique 101 Colouring with Aqua Painters

Most people get frustrated when they first start watercoloring as they expect their project to look like the others they have seen.  My advice would be to practice and not expect perfection on your first attempts.  The more you do, the better you will get. Give it a shot and I hope you enjoy it.

Now its time to go an see what Sonia from France has made using the same aqua painter technique –

Techniques 101 International Blog Hop

Here are a list of participants from across the globe in case you lose your way.  Enjoy hopping around and I really hope you give this wonderful technique a try!
