I have news!! We have had a dog for 24 hours now and I don't know if we have done the right thing??? She is downstairs barking in her crate whilst I try and get some work done, will I ever be able to work again? {She is now cuddled up with Amy and as quiet as a mouse!}
She is the cutest, most loving and affectionate little girl and honestly we are over the moon with her but we are all adjusting to one another and I am sure it will take more than 24 hours.
My kids have always wanted a dog but my husband we never keen and it was easy for me to go along with him for an easy life. But since Christmas I have not been able to shake the desire for a little dog, definitely not a puppy but an older dog.
So my powers of persuasion must be amazing as I managed to talk my husband round all without letting on to the kids that we were considering having a dog. So a week ago I contacted a lady who was looking to re-home a Dachshund and in a matter of days it was all arranged that we would collect her on Sunday. My husband wanted to be there to see the kids faces when we told them (he works away during the week) so we had to wait till Friday to tell them.
I had it all planned and had rigged my flip cam ready to capture their reactions. I am a cruel parent and love to embarass my kids to this video will come in handy for years to come as their reaction was priceless!
We sat them down and asked them how they felt about having a new addition to our family? At this point Dominic (14) got up to walk out of the room with disgust with the idea that I may be pregnant – it was hilarious!! I asked them what they wanted more than anything in the world and they both asked if we were getting a shower!! I was nearly on the floor at this point. We then said "what about a dog?'' and at this point they couldn't take it all in and began jumping around the room asking if we were serious. Honestly, it was priceless and I have it all on video.
So we drove to collect out new little pooch, a 10 month old Dachshund who we have renamed Pippi (or Pip for short) and we have fallen head over in heels in love with her.
Of course I had to make a thank you card for the owner and I had the perfect stamp set from Stampin Up, Longfellows (hostess level 2).
I made a slider card and using the Tree Stamp from Thoughts & Prayers and the sentiment from Curvy Verses.
And red 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon
And I guess you would like to see Pip in real life now……
Beautiful, not sure about Amy's nail colour choice! So I am sure you will be seeing more of this little girl but for now, if you have any tips for novice dog owners I would really appreciate them!
Love Pip !!!
Having a pooch in the house means your feet will be warm whilst you design your projects! Although in our house it means I never have any Tempting Turquoise card………Keeva ( my Border Terrier) steals it !
Ha ha your blog has given Mimz and I a good giggle. Good Luck!! X
lol … great idea. Thank you for sharing :o)
how lovely Michelle .. I thought you were a natural with Lyn’s dog recently!! Enjoy!
Oh my what a cutie, my doggie got in my SU box one day and stole a customers punch and flew out the dog flap with it, and too my horror chewed the handle, guess who ended up witha duplicate punch….lol
You are so mean lol I would have loved to have seen their faces I bet it was priceless .. and wow I’m so going to have to come for a cuddle Pip is gorgeous look at those big chocolate eyes no wonder you have fallen in love .. Pip is one lucky dog 🙂 xx
Hi Michelle … Don’t worry – your decision to take Pip into your home (and your heart) is one decision you’ll never regret … you’ll have a companion for life who will bless you with unconditional love … just keep all those tempting SU bits & pieces out of her mischievous way! … love Linda -x-
How lovely especially as she is a ‘second hand’ dog as so many end up unloved in rescue centres. my son has just left home and taken Millie, also a rescue dog, with him and to be honest I miss her more than I do him! She may be small but still needs plenty of exercise even in the rain!!
Love form Linda xx
Awww! Pip is gorgeous. Murray the spotty-dog sends snuggles. xx
Ohhhhhhhhhhh! She is soooo sweet! I think I’m in love :o) xxx
Oh my word, how adorable?! We adopted our dog about 3 years ago, I found the first few months really tough, like having another baby. Now it’s like we’ve always had her, and we all adore her. She makes us laugh all the time and although the cold, wet, muddy mornings are hard sometimes, she is so worth it! You’ll love it, just hang in there. Clare (& Stella!)
I love the way you spin a yarn! Priceless – Pip looks adorable! – and so is your card!
Awww, she is just gorgeous, Have a fun with her 🙂 i still miss mine every day, they are your babies!
Hugs xxx
Oh yeah, pefect card too! lol 😉
Oh Michelle Pip is gorgeous and I am so jealous as I would love a dog and especially a dachshund! Had to laugh at your story! Oh and fab card as well! Nx
Michelle-
Your card is so cute! Love it! And what a sweet baby! We got a new pup for Christmas. I actually just put one of his first photos on my blog yesterday. It definitely takes some getting used to. Ours has a cord chewing habit and I’m praying that puppy school will help. He’s chewed my speaker cord and mouse cord to my computer and the controller to the xBox, just to name a couple things. Luckily, he doesn’t mind his crate, because I certainly won’t let him run free when I’m gone. I might not have a home to come back to. LOL! I wish you the best of luck with your new pup. I love mine so much, despite his bad habits:)
First a baby (??) then a shower but really a dog – waht a cruel Mother you are!!!! Pip’s gorgeous

Wow Michelle! What an amazing idea for a card with that stamp set. I just love it!
Oh dear, what a cutie! You must teach me your persuasion techniques as I’d like a second cat but someone isn’t budging! Love that card – so clever! Jo x
Awww Pip, What a soleful little face you have.
what a little beauty she is Michelle, hope she brings you all much joy. xx
What a sweet looking doggie and I’m sure the recipient of your fab card was pleased as it was so apt.
Oh Michelle she is precious and your card adorable, you are in for fun times and she will make you all so happy. Enjoy !!!
First let me say what an adorable idea for the use of the stamp set. I’m a doxie owner myself and jumped at this stamp set as soon as I saw it. I am 100% going to give this a try.
Also, as a doxie owner all I can say is you’re in for a treat. If she’s anything like mine, she’ll be quite the cuddler. Mine loves nothing more than just being next to me (preferably buried as far under a blanket as he can get). Good Luck!
Oh How lucky you are the Daxie looks so beautiful, I too am a proud owner of two a boy and a girl( red like yours). She will bring you so much love and laughter. It was the best thing we ever did when the boys grew up. And the card is great two will try it out. I also had to get this stamp set so I could have it in my collection of Daxie stuff.

Hi Michelle, love the card and adore the pup Pip!! As a seasoned dog owner I have lots of advice for you. Firstly they understand the word NO very well, it is important that Pip has lots of toys of her own – both soft and cuddly and harder ones, if she takes something that is not her’s take it away from her and use the word NO and give her one of her toys, she will soon learn, persevere it will pay off.
Do you have a cage for her? if not get one – wether you buy or borrow for the first six months they are a godsend.
Do get in touch for any further help and tips, I have a 20 month old labrador and have got this far without her chewing anything in the house.
Most important thing is a walk first thing in the morning as she will be content and will sleep for a couple of hours.

Ah Michelle Pip is so beautiful (more pictures please) I have had to have my beloved Daphne put to sleep today so am feeling a bit sad
Love and happy puppy training (easier in the long run than a baby!!)

Pip looks absolutely adorable. My advice for the novice dog owner is check out the books written by Gwen Bailey, her books are full of sensible advice and kind methods for having a well behaved happy dog and owner. Enjoy 8-))
Oh she is so cute! I LOVE wienerdogs! I have had them for years.
Oh bless ya …
We have three Spaniels.. two springers and a cocker, two of which were from rescue..
I’m pretty sure that if you have had her for a month, she will have settled down by now. but if you’re having any problems and would like some more advice, just ask. xx
