I'm back from a lovely half term break with my kids. We didn't go anywhere, just jung around at home, seeing friends and family. It was nice to get up a little later and not to be so ruled by the clock. Reality hit this morning though when my daughter had forgotten that her alarm clock even existed and she missed her bus to school :-D Good old mum took her to school this morning – disaster averted!!
I have a couple of 18th birthdays coming up, one this week, my nephew Ben and one in July for my niece Steph. I am having real trouble coming up with something to buy for them, what do you get an 18 year old these days?
So I got busy making their birthday cards. I have the new Timeless Type Junior Alphabet (£65.95) from the new mini catalogue and I had an idea to add 18's all over the base of the card in the same colour as the base. I wasn't sure how it was going to work and felt it needed a splash of colour somewhere so I cut another 18 in black (and pink) to lay over one of the 18's in white. But it needed something else. Bunting!! so I stamped the bunting stamp from Party This Way (£12.95) on some of the paper from the pattern stacks (£15.50) so that I could cut out the bunting in the same size. I then attached it to some linen thread and strung it across the card using a stampin dimensional under each piece of bunting so give it some dimension.
I finished off the inside with the samp bunting stamp in a light coloured ink and then stamped celebrate from the hostess set Something to Celebrate in a darker ink.
can you see the white 18's in the background?
and here is the inside…..
and the girly version….
So that is another job done! Now what to buy them??????? I hope you had a great weekend and stop back later this week for more chatter.
The cards look great what a fab idea! present suggestion itunes vouchers, or if you want to be the coolest aunt ever alcohol. I got a bottle of champagne from my aunt when I was 18 and all my friends were so jealous! xx
Gorgeous cards – let us now what you decide for gifts as I have a niece who is 18 end June and her brother 21 mid July!! Think I it is fab!!
Love Terri xx
Great cards Michelle! Love the textured effect you get by adding the white 18’s to the white background! If in doubt go for a voucher (or gift card as they are nowaday’s!!).
Hugs, Victoria ~x~

Great use of the number dies. My set arrived today and I can’t wait to play. You have inspired me with the tone on tone background effect. X

Absolutely stunning – LOVE This idea. And thankfully, one of my downlines has the dies, tee hee
I love your card! I just made my daughter one for her 30th birthday today. I’ve linked your blog on my blog.
Thanks so much!
Your cards are great. I thought it was an embossing folder at 1st.
Ter from Canada 😉
Your cards look nice and they don’t look too mature for an 18th birthday party. What’s the overall theme for this party? Is it going to be held outdoors or not? =D
