Here is my card for this weeks Global Design Project. It is a colour challenge and I found it REALLY hard!
And sshhh don’t tell anyone but I really don’t like my card 😉 But it’s Good Friday and I need to get this posted so I can enjoy the weekend and time with my family.
Especially more precious as our lovely son Dom is off on his travels again. He leaves next week to head back to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and China for three and half months. What an adventure he is going to have!
So let’s get on with the blog post so I get away from the computer…
The Tangelo Twist really threw me as I am not a lover of Orange and especially not this shade and I hardly had anything in my stash in this colour. Luckily I own the Colour Me Irresistible DSP which is white with white embossed images on it so you can colour it any colour you wish! I coloured the flower panel and the diagonal stripe piece.
I also cut a butterfly thinlit in coaster board and coloured it with marker and daubers and also added a little wink of stella to the wings to add a bit of sparkle.
This card has a lot going on. I did not like it so kept throwing more textures, patterns and elements to it and still don’t like it 🙂
I really challenge you to make something with this sketch and join the Global Design Project this week. It is really good to step outside of your comfort zone and more of the time you will be delighted with the results.
Make sure you pop on over to the Global Design Project and see what the other design team members made using this colour combo. You are sure to be WOW’ed.
It is the last few days of sale-a-bration so don’t miss out. For every £45 you spend you can choose a free item or better still buy the starter kit for £99 and choose £160 worth of goods. Visit my Buy the Starter kit tab above for all the details and a link to join. I don’t think you will see an offer as good as that for quite sometime!
The items I used are shown below, to visit my shop, simply click the images to go directly there and if you are ordering £20+ (and less than £150) be sure to use the monthly hostess code to receive a free thank you gift from me.
Happy Easter Monday everyone!
You may not like it – but I think it is fantastic! What a bold, bright and vibrant card.
I think your card is fabulous! You tied the colors together in such a lovely way and I love the layering & textures in it. Orange is definitely a color I rarely use except around Halloween/Fall time and I certainly would never had paired it with Bermuda Bay & Early Expresso but you really pulled it off!
Your post made me smile Michelle – we all have days like that, especially when you’re on a DT! Personally I prefer sketches to colours so always find these a challenge, but it can be a good way to get out of your comfort zone – and I think your card works with the orange creating a real pop of colour. Hope you are enjoying a chocolate-filled weekend! Xxx
This card is awesome Michelle. YOU are awesome Michelle. The colours look so great.
WOW! You may not like it, but I think your card is absolutely stunning, Michelle! That butterfly is simply gorgeous!!
Michelle, I think your card is very striking! I love this color combo so I will definitely playing this time round!
Am off to the Global Design Project to see what you made Linda xx
You have done a fabulous job with this card Michelle, especially love the bit of glimmer on your butterfly! It is always hard working with colours that don’t ‘call’ to you but you did it and did it really well!!
Thanks Deb, that is so kind of you x
Personally, I think it’s great, but we are always hardest on ourselves, no? I hope Dom has a magic time away!
The whole card is FAB! but particularly love how the colours work together on the butterfly.
I don’t like it either….I LOVE it!! It’s so bright and bold, yet still soft and pretty.
Sending love to Dom as he travels again – I bet you wish you could pack yourself in his luggage!! xo
Your comment made me smile darling, thank you! I’m not sure Dom would be too happy to find me in his luggage! Am thankful for modern technology to keep up with him and see where he is! He is currently in the Philippines wake boarding, oh to be a teenager again!
This was a challenging colour combo Michelle, but I think you rocked it! Your card is fabulous! xoxo
You are too kind Gail x
The touch of orange was a real challenge I must admit as its not a colour I use often either – but I love your card. Funny how we can be so critical of our own work – I love all the combinations you’ve added.
Thanks so much Fiona, won’t feel the need to reach for the orange for a while now 🙂
So many juice layers! 🙂
