I have created a card and tried to make the cardstock look like faux fabric in a Cath Kidston style. I was totally inspired by the Fancy Phrases stamped set with its sketchy vintage design.

I had the idea in my head for a few days and when I found the time to sit down and start to create it didn’t go well! But I persevered and tried different colour combinations and slowly I began to fall in love with the results.

What I love about the Fancy Phrases stamp set is that the sketchy lines of the stamp show where to add a darker shade when colouring with your Alcohol Stampin’ Blends markers. For the card above I stamped the flower image in Smoky Slate ink and colour with Blends which gives a muted effect.

With the card shared above I used the Black Memento Ink Pad to stamp the flowers which gives more definition to the image. Totally personal preference on which you prefer.

This is one I have coloured (all stamped onto Whisper White Thick Cardstock) and then I have embossed the stamped and coloured piece with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder which adds texture and a more authentic fabric effect.
I have shared a video below on how to create this technique so feel free to take a moment to watch and create your own.

Beautiful cards, Michelle! I knew about using Memento ink with alcohol markers, but was not aware that the SU inks will also work with alcohol markers. I was thinking the colors will bleed using the regular dye inks and then coloring with the alcohol markers.
Thanks
Shirley
Hi Shirley, thanks for your comment on my blog post. All our inks are dye (water based) inks the same as memento so should be used when stamping outlines before using Alcohol markers to colour. If you are using water to create effects you should use StazOn as the outline for the stamp otherwise the water medium you use (aqua painter, blender pen, paintbrush or spritzer) will make the sharp outline image bleed to. Hope that helps xx
That is so beautiful. Can’t wait to try this one. Thanks for the video tutorial.
My pleasure Sue x
Gorgeous cards Michelle and very Kath Kidston. I love the tip on using the linen thread which will make my future cards less ragged. Thanks for that.
Warm wishes,
Karen.
So pleased that you like my tip. Thanks for taking the time to comment xx
