I love this time of year and each year I make something handmade for our tree or to decorate our home. I was totally inspired by Anna Pickering who created these gorgeous handmade Christmas ornaments and the mini jam jars from Stampin’ Up are perfect to use to make your own.

In our mini catalogue we have a set of dies called the Giving Gifts Dies which fit perfectly when cut twice inside the mini jam jar. Choose between a snowflake or santa on his sleigh die cut and both are equally lovely.
You can pop a battery operated tea light inside which casts a lovely subtle glow when turned on and these Christmas ornaments would look perfect on your tree or on the windowsill on a dark winters evening.

How to make a Christmas ornament
- Cut a piece of vellum to measure 4.5cm x 18cm
- Cut a piece of basic white cardstock to measure 4.5cm x 17cm
- Die cut your chosen shape (snowflake or santa on his sleigh) twice on the basic white strip with an even border around the edges.
- Stick the basic white die cut piece onto the vellum strip with tombow glue.
- Stick the 1cm overlap of vellum to the inside of the end of the vellum piece to create a circle.
- Decide if you lid will be the top or the base of your ornament and insert the die cut piece the correct way up.
- At the seam, bend the vellum to fit inside the mini jam jar.
- Stamp your greeting for the lid. I used ‘Joyful Season’ from the Encircled in Warmth stamp set and heat embossed it in silver embossing powder.
- Die cut a scalloped circle around the greeting to fit the lid using the Layering Circles Dies.
- Pierce a small hole in the centre of the circle and thread through your silver elegant trim.
- Stick onto the lid or your base to enable you to hang. If sticking to the base add a double layer of dimensionals as the base has a slight concave shape to it.
- Insert your battery tea light and display with pride.
All the craft supplies needed to make these ornaments are available from my online shop and details are shared below.

Decorate the top of the mini jam jar with the greeting from Encircled in Warmth.

Whichever way up you make them, with the lid at the top or the bottom, they look great. I added a final flourish of pearls, you could even add a red pearl to one of the reindeer’s noses to make him Rudolph!
Have fun making these handmade Christmas ornaments and smile each year as you bring them out to use again and again.
