Storage Solutions for your office

May 20, 2021 By Michelle Last

I have more storage solutions to share with you today. Yesterday I shared how I store my craft supplies. Today I am sharing how I organise my desk area and my postal area of my office. If you did not see the previous posts be sure to hop back and take a look at my craft room/office video tour, how to zone your craft space and storage solutions for your craft area.

Postal area of craft room

This photo is what I refer to as my postal area. It has a large built in cupboard which stores lots of large and unsightly items including two printers. I keep the printer paper, inks, Memories and More supplies, photos, kits and bags hidden away in this cupboard. I took the opportunity to add a bi-fold door to both my built in cupboards so that I did not need to have clearance for a full door opening into my craft room.

On the right is a bespoke shelf unit which is wall mounted. It is mainly decorative but I do store all my finished cards in the labelled slots at the bottom of the unit. The base unit is made up of a single BESTA unit from IKEA and a 3 drawer unit called NORDLI also from IKEA. The joiner joined them together and added a worktop (also from IKEA) to the top.

What I store in my postal cupboard

drawer contents of postal cupboard

My top drawer has all my most used items inside. Envelopes, sellotape, stamps, weighing scales, return address labels and calculator.

In the next drawer I have packing tape, large cello bags and aprons. Again you can see I store items in baskets to keep them contained in the drawer and easily accessible.

Potsal cupboard

The bottom drawer houses my cello bags, treat bags & carrier bags. And I have some spare room if I need to find a home for anything postal area related.

drawer contents of postal cupboard

The BESTA cupboard is so useful for holding all my catalogues and packing materials. When I have a new catalogue launch I store my catalogue stacked up by my door. They aren’t in the way and they won’t be there for long and when I am preparing them my LANEBERG table works a treat.

catalogue storage

Now I’ll hop on over to my desk/admin area and show you how that is organised.

My desk storage

Desk area in my craft room

The shelves and cupboards were built in to the back of my wall to hide an ugly radiator and create a focal point and more storage. it was bespoke built by our joiner and painted. There are two cupboards on the bottom, either side of the radiator. One has the radiator partially obscuring the inside so I was limited as to what I could store. But here is a photo of both cupboards.

storage cupboards in craft room

The left hand cupboard is useful for storing tall items such as my tripod and wrapping paper and my phone stand and the shelf on the other side holds all items I use for admin purposes in my business such as dymo labels, past catalogues, new recruit welcome info etc.

The open shelves are functional as well as pretty so have a combination of files, label printer, decorative items and samples. I did toy with the idea of adding lighting to the shelf area but decided against it as I am rarely in this room in the evening when its dark and that lamps would give me a stronger more useful light. I have holes with cable tidy grommet in my shelf unit and desk and plugs hidden out of sight to keep my space as cable free as possible. The mirror bounces light from the window.

Our joiner made a bespoke desk for me as I could not find what I was looking for in the size I needed. I used another NORDLI drawer unit for storage and a MDF shell was built around it to create my desk with shelving on the side facing out into the room. It is so much nicer than looking at the plain boring back or a desk and gives me more storage options.

Desk area in my craft room

So as you can see, this room really packs a punch when it comes to storage. There is a good combination of hidden storage and open storage and most importantly, everything has a place. Which makes tidying away and finding things a real breeze. If you have not seen my blog posts from earlier in the week, do pop back to see the full story and I will be sharing my last post tomorrow on how to avoid the most common mistakes when designing your dream craft room/space.

Thanks for stopping by x

Interactive Mini Album I've been busy behind the Interactive Mini Album

I've been busy behind the scenes creating a special mini album for my team retreat this weekend. I can't wait to spend time with my wonderful team—being creative together, sharing lots of laughs and making this beautiful keepsake. If you've followed me for a while, you'll know I have a real love for mini albums. They're one of my favourite ways to preserve memories because they tell a story that's far bigger than a single scrapbook page....
