This week we are making Masculine Cards for Your Creative Connection Inspiration Tour. If I am honest, I find it hard to make masculine cards and often buy them – sshhhhh…. don’t tell anyone!

I think it’s because the men in my life don’t tend to fit the stereotypes of the stamps we sell. So I like to use things which aren’t always the obvious choice and for my card I have teamed up the Sailing Home stamp set with the unconventional choice (for masculine cards) Framed for You!

The Sailing Home stamp set contains such detailed images and I thought it would be great to combine the sailing boat image with the frame and create a piece of artwork.

The Sailing Home stamp set is one I could use to send my Dad as he was a keen sailor in his day. He is 83, is now blind and has dementia but in his day he was fearless. He would often come home and announce a new purchase or passion including a new boat. Throughout my childhood we had many boats including a fishing trawler and we went to the Isle of Wight for a weekend with friends. It didn’t go quite to plan though when he had not predicted the tides property and we got wedged in the mud quite far out from the shoreline! I still giggle at the memory of my Dad in his pants rescuing us in a borrowed dinghy.

I love the Framed for You stamp set which has been designed by one of our million dollar seller Terry Gaines. It was so easy to stamp the frame in Early Espresso Ink onto Soft Suede cardstock and use the Layering Squares Framelit dies to cut it out (although you could easily use a trimmer). The woodgrain in the stamp really makes the frame look realistic.

I stamped the smaller sailboat using StazOn ink onto Fluid 100 Watercolour paper and then using our new Water Painters I coloured the image. These new water painters are great as they have three varying brush sizes including a really fine one for detail.
I raised the frame using the edge pieces of my dimensionals (never any waste!) and added some linen thread and a pearl to give the illusion of a piece of hanging artwork.
The background paper is from the In Good Taste designer series paper and has texture printed on it which was a perfect background to my artwork. It kind of looks like a choppy sea or a rough plastered wall.

And the little Happy Birthday is from the Framed for You set too (this set has a great choice of greetings). If you fancy placing a cheeky order I would really appreciate it. All the items I have listed below are what I used to create this masculine card.
If you would like more inspiration on card for the men in your life, then pop on over to Claire to see what she has made and hop around the entire Your Creative Connection tour.
